David Lunny

Senior Counsel

As Senior Counsel with Fraser Litigation Group, David Lunny brings a wealth of experience and a well-earned reputation gained from almost four decades of practice in advising upon and in conducting major litigation cases. Widely acknowledged as a lawyer of exceptional talent and versatility, David’s ability to provide strategic direction and offer key insight with respect to any legal issue is highly valued and much sought after.

Prior to joining Fraser Litigation Group, David was a partner in a major Vancouver law firm and then was Head of Litigation and founder and managing partner of a medium- sized Vancouver law firm for many years.

He is a graduate of the University of Glasgow (M.A. Hons.) and the University of British Columbia (LL.B.) and was trained in mediation at Harvard Law School (Cert.).

David and his wife, Maureen Baird, KC, also a well-known member of the legal profession and Senior Counsel at Fraser Litigation Group, enjoy travelling, jogging, cycling, kayaking and the occasional week-ends in Whistler and Pemberton, B.C.

David speaks French and a little conversational German and Spanish.

Representative Work

David has pursued a highly successful legal career of uncommon variety and has been involved in many controversial and high profile cases. He has extensive experience as senior counsel in trial and appellate proceedings, both civil and criminal, including jury trials, and in appearances before a wide range of administrative and regulatory tribunals and in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution hearings.

His practice has encompassed a wide range of corporate and commercial litigation involving both domestic and international law issues and he has a broad background also in the conduct of major family, estate, personal injury and white collar crime or securities regulation cases. David has appeared at all levels of Court in British Columbia and in Canada, including the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

He has conducted many alternative dispute resolution hearings (arbitration, mediation or settlement conferences) in Canada and the United States and in London, Amsterdam, Zurich, Tokyo and Singapore.

David is the author of several published articles and chapters on the law and has lectured and given talks to many professional bodies on various legal topics, advocacy and civil procedure. He is a former Senior Editor of the UBC Law Review.
